It is easy to be grateful when things are going great. It is especially important to be grateful when life is challenging. We need to focus on what we can be grateful for during the challenging times. We can start off by being grateful for the challenge. The key moments of growth in the lives of heroes involved trauma and adversarial situations, such as we find with Joseph in a prison, or Moses and the exodus. Those challenging moments forced them to think and figure out who they really were and commit to deeper ideals and live in a more engaged and invigorated style. So challenges are great and it is nice to be grateful in retrospect but be grateful for challenges now. Robert Emmons world leading research scientist in the area of gratitude in his book Thanks says there is a 25 percent boost in happiness when we keep track of the things in a gratitude journal. As the bible says Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
