The New You

I believe your personality creates your personal reality. If you want to have a different personal reality in the future you need to create a different personality. Gideon saw himself as the least of the least. Moses saw himself as slow of speech and tongue. Personality is formed by the thoughts we have, the choices we make, the behaviours we engage in, and the feelings we feel. Our current reality is an essential expression of our past reality in thoughts, choices, behaviours and feelings. The Apostle Paul writing to the Ephesians said that we were to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. So Paul urges us to become a new person. The new you is not easy! When we start thinking new things, and have new behaviours it is uncomfortable. It is a different version of you. As the children of Israel found, it is hard to cross the river of change. It is hard to let go of old identities. New science is teaching us that it is possible through neuroplasticity. Our brain is plastic it is not fixed, it is malleable, our brain can be literally restructured. You prune certain neuro connections and pathways, and you sprout new ones. Basically you have to biologically die to your old version of self to be born into the new. You need to have a crucify your old self to have a resurrection.
