To Possess
I love the following verse from Exodus chapter 13
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
God purposely led the children of Israel the long hard way for they were not ready for war because they were not ready or strong enough to possess the land. If you study the word possess in Hebrew it suggests that you have to dispossess the current occupants. The promised land where God wanted them was full of enemies, there was Jericho, and then one city after another. Listen to how Paul describes his own experience. A wide door of opportunity opened up and with it many adversaries. God is calling us all to our own promised land, Are you and I ready to step out of your comfort zone.
