Folded Arms

Body language is interesting. Hiding behind a barrier is a normal response we learn at an early age to protect ourselves. As children we hid behind solid objects such as tables and chairs and our mother’s skirt. As we grow older this hiding behaviour becomes more sophisticated and by the age of six we learn to fold our arms tightly across our chest whenever a threatening situation arises. The arms fold neatly around the heart and lung area to protect these vital organs. The bible talks about broken-heartedness and I wonder whether the older we get if our body language shows that we are protecting our wounded and broken hearts. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ (who came to heal the brokenhearted) and his church.
