The Search for Meaning
In the 17th century people became disillusioned with organised religion and protested against the Catholic Church it began a long process of secularisation. Newtonian science came in the with the secularisation of knowledge in the 17th century. In the 18th century we have the secularisation of power with both the French and American revolution. In the 19th century we have the secularisation of culture with art galleries, concert halls, and museums. In the 1960s there was the secularisation of morality. But I am now sensing real disillusionment and discontent with today’s western society which could be summed up as ‘maximum of choice with the minimum of meaning’. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
