Heroines

There are so many heroines in the bible, Jochabed, Miriam, Zipporah, and the two midwives who appear throughout the story of Moses. There is Pharaoh’s daughter who gives Moses his name, rescues him, adopts him at great risk. She is the one without whom there would have been no Moses. She is not named in Genesis but a Pharaoh’s daughter is mentioned in Chronicles the name is Bithiah which means God’s daughter. If everyone of those women hadn’t broken the law there would have been no exodus. Then later even Moses is challenged by women of courage. Moses presents the law to the nation and Zelophehad’s five daughters Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah protest, saying the law of inheritance is unjust. Moses talks to God and God says we need to change the law. What to make of this, one thing we can say is that God is looking for courage, and boldness of approach in coming to him, and all these heroines show that in abundance.
