Guarding our hearts

In discussion at my seminar last night I heard someone say to the question why are we afraid of the word no, that ‘we guard our hearts against the possibility of rejection’. The Bible tells us that our thoughts often dictate who we become (Proverbs 23:7; 27:19). Just as there are many diseases and disorders that can affect the physical heart, there are many ailments of the spiritual heart that can impair growth and development as a believer. Atherosclerosis is a hardening of the arteries due to accumulated cholesterol plaques and scarring in the artery walls. Hardening of the spiritual heart can also occur. Hardening of the heart occurs when we are presented with God’s truth, and we refuse to acknowledge or accept it. Listen to these words Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church and be blessed.
