Outstretched
The image of the near-touching hands of God and Adam has become iconic of humanity and has been reproduced in countless imitations and parodies. Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper and Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam are the most replicated religious paintings of all time. Adam’s finger outstretched in reaching and not yet arriving has the idea of the human being constantly in wanting to close that gap between where you are and where you want to be. Jesus gives us an idea of how we might close that gap ‘Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened unto you. I want to echo Michelangelo’s prayer, ‘Lord Grant that I can desire more than I can accomplish.’ Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
