Negative Emotions
No farmer would ever say they need a balmy 75 degrees sunny condition every single day. The farmer wouldn’t have crops. Crops need rain, wind, and storms for seeds to pollinate across the fields. Sunny days are like happiness, when you are in a happy state of mind, the status quo is more likely. There is no need for effort. But even when we are mildly unhappy, it can stir us to devote time and energy to discover again the things we value the most. This is less likely to occur if you are in a happy state as the New Testament writer James says, ‘Consider it joy when you face trials and tribulations.’ Jesus was angry in the temple and turned over the tables. The disciples had doubts and were behind locked doors when Jesus entered the room. But they went on to change the world. Negative emotions play a major role in the life of a Christ follower, they are often the platform for change. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
