Falling on Deaf Ears

A Pastor said to me recently that his exhortations to his congregation to evangelise their friends was falling on deaf ears. This got me thinking, as to whether our ears are deaf to the calls of our Pastors or is there something else going on? I do suspect that we are deliberately not hearing because we don’t want to lose status with our friends, or our fear of appearing incompetent, and our lack of trust in God. But I think the real reason we develop deafness is because we have never recovered from the last time someone rejected us. The pain of that rejection makes us deaf to mission. To unblock the ears, we need to hear the story of the pain of the Inviter. Lead in invitation this Easter and invite someone to take a closer look at Christ (our Healer) and his church.
