Chronic Stress and the Gospel of good news

Dr Nadine Burke Harris is a Primary Care Doctor/Researcher in the United States and has studied families suffering from chronic stress. She has noticed three serious health and life consequences

Firstly a deregulation of the fight and flight system, know as the Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) axis, a deregulation of the reward centre of the brain, chronic stress causes toxicity to your Hippocampus which affects memory and learning, a deregulation of neurotransmitters and receptors

Secondly Adrenaline stimulates inflammation in your body and constant chronic firing through stress produces chronic inflammation Exposure to trauma causes issues neurologically endocrinologically and immunologically.

Thirdly babies in the womb with chronic stress happening in their mother suffer Epigenetic modifications which result in decreased Glucocorticoid receptors in the brain which also means the HPA axis goes out of whack and starts to malfunction.

Invite someone suffering with chronic stress to take a closer look at Christ (who says don’t be afraid for I am with you) and his church. We might as well help people test out the presence of Jesus as a healing balm in the midst of their chronic stress.
