No rest

Consumerism and productivity promises rest. There are moments of rest as we utter the phrase Thank God it is Friday, but then we have the Monday morning feeling as we get back on the treadmill. We can go on holiday and have a wonderful time but then have to come back and dread the first day. Just as it was in Egypt for the Children of Israel our taskmasters offer false hopes that if we climb the ladder of success there will be rest but they are exploiting the truth and their hope is false. The Sabbath draws a boundary line and defines our relationship with God. In Sabbath rest we enter a different experience of time that of the eternal where we are building our devotion to God. Six days work and one day rest. Resting with God is true rest. Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
