From Certainty to uncertainty

In Western Christianity we have moved from certainty to uncertainty in a very short period of time. Well up to just after the second world war, church attendance was either stable or booming in many churches. Christianity was at the centre of society. But then things changed, people started to drift away from church and the social environment began to become more hostile to Christianity. Some of those remaining in the church of that generation still long for those days, where all we needed to do was open the doors and they would come. One author has recently said about how we are still waiting for people to come “if 1953 were to come back we would ready!” The state of being certain about something I would argue does not lead to deep faith. Uncertainty gives us the opportunity of practicing faith because we have to risk and step into the unknown. The Christian life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Look at life from a different perspective. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
