A new name
The bible is full of examples of characters receiving from God a new name. Abram, Jacob, Simon, and Saul to name a few. In the journey of faith they laid down their old identity and started to become who God meant them to be. The story of the angel of the Lord visiting Gideon, gives an immediate description of how he was seen by God. Despite threshing wheat in the barn for fear of the Midianites, the Angel addresses him as a “mighty man of valor”. God sees us much differently than we presently see ourselves. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ (who wants to give us all a new name) and his church.
