The frozen chosen

The term “the frozen chosen” refers to Christians who are more reserved in their life of faith. Christians who seem glum and torpid, despite the fact that they presumably have “the joy of the Lord in their heart. They have the most difficulty becoming missional. I want to suggest that something may have happened to these Christians in their early childhood years that remains hidden. Psychologist Alice Miller says “as long as the child within is not allowed to become aware of what happened to him or her, a part of his or her emotional life will remain frozen.” Being reserved, glum and torpid are encoded expressions of these experiences. Christ came to set us free, to literally melt the frozen with his love. Let’s look to see how Christ might defrost more of the frozen chosen to Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
