Listening to my fear to find yirah
Fear which is translated as yirah is mentioned 44 times in the Old Testament. It is what I might call good fear, a thin space where we might meet God. But we are often unaware, and not conscious of God’s presence in our lives. Listen to Jacob’s version of good fear. Genesis 25:30-34 Jacob awoke from his sleep and said: “Surely Adonai is in this place and I did not know!” And he was afraid and he said: “How fearsome is this place! This can be but the house of God and this is the gate of the heavens.” the genesis of Jacob’s faith begins with yirah, fear and awe, in the presence of God. Face your fear today and invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
