Inviting the stranger
The night of Easter Sunday on the road to Emmaus, here the church in the person of two confused and discouraged disciples are returning to their everyday lives, the lives between the resurrection and God’s promised future. Here the church is met on the road by a stranger who opens the scriptures to them and is revealed to them as the Risen Lord only when they invite this stranger to join them for table fellowship and ask the stranger to bless the bread. The table fellowship was a foretaste of a heavenly banquet of God’s promised future. So who is going to be at the table fellowship in God’s promised future. Which friend or stranger is God calling you to invite to take a closer look at Christ and his church?
