I have been concerned for some time that we measure the wrong things in mission. I ring up church leaders after a invitational event and ask how did it go? Often they can be downcast, telling me that they only had eleven invited guests and they are not doing an invitational event next time as only one has stayed! So is there a natural relationship between what we measure and our results in mission? Are there things we should be measuring that would give us a more accurate read on how we are accomplishing our mission? What are we afraid to measure? I believe we need to measure both the yeses and the no’s of invitation. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
