Invitational Tension
Hope contains both trust and mistrust in tension. Hope is the confident expectation of something desired in the face of the possibility that it might not happen. Hope is the earnest longing of what can appear in spite of past experiences when it did not. Hope is the certainty that good will come even in the face of things looking bad. You never know the response in invitation, but we need to hold both trust and mistrust in tension and invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
