Masking agents in Invitation
Church leader’s sometimes ask me, why their congregations can appear so apathetic to mission. Apathy is a masking agent. A masking agent is a reagent used in chemical analysis which reacts with chemical species that may interfere in the analysis. In sports a masking agent is used to hide or prevent detection of a banned substance or illegal drug like anabolic steroids or stimulants. In the same way apathy is a masking agent for fear, making it difficult to detect. Invitation reveals apathy, apathy is a masking agent for fear. So invite fellow congregational member’s to invite someone and then detect the fear behind those who are apathetic, and remind them that God anticipated their issue by saying, ‘don’t be afraid!’
