Invitational Outsourcing
The mis-match in expectation when a church leader is hired by a congregation eventually can cause severe problems. Without knowing it the people in the church transfer most of their hopes and dreams for spiritual and numerical growth onto the shoulders of the new leader. The church leader is delighted with the attention of the congregation, in fact what has happened is that they have the church leader on a pedestal. Then as the expectations are not met, the first voices of criticism are heard. In my seminars I hear people say about invitation, ‘it’s not my job, it’s the church leader’s job’. We as congregational members have a tendency in our generation to outsource aspects of Christianity such as mission. Let’s not outsource but in-source by listening to the prompting of God in our life to invite and invite someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
