Invitational Assessment
For those of us who aspire to be serial inviters I came across a useful diagnostic tool today. Travelling with a former nurse now Pastor in Canada, she told me of the training she was given to assess a situation under the acronym SOAPIER. This assessment tool helps to listen and diagnose on a different level. S is subjective how is the person feeling? O is objective where is the pain? A is Assessment which is conducted through questions and responses. P is for plan of action I is for Implementation, which might be a form of medication, E is for Evaluation and R is for Revise. In inviting the rich young ruler to commit his whole life to God, I think Jesus went through a similar diagnostic process. He was great at asking questions. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church by asking questions and finding the blockage in someone’s relationship with God.
