Invitation and the power of drift in mission

The power of drift in mission, is a bit like the old game called Chinese whispers. This is a game played around the world, in which one person whispers a message to another, which is passed through a line of people until the last player announces  the message to the entire group. Errors typically accumulate in the re-tellings,  so the statement announced by the last player differs significantly, and often  amusingly, from the one uttered by the first. Reasons for changes include anxiousness or impatience, wrong corrections, and that some players may deliberately alter what is being said in order to guarantee a changed message by the end of it! Jesus original message of going to make disciples seems to have accumulated errors in the retelling. We seem to be prone to do most things other than going and making disciples. Let’s start the going by getting back to inviting someone to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
