Invitation and circling the wagons
I meet churches around the world who have stopped communicating with people not in their group to avoid “outside” ideas and beliefs. It is a club mentality which excludes anything which isn’t part of the culture of the church. It can be very obvious when people of the same nation form a church, but it is also there in churches run by families over many generations. The old wild west phrase that comes to mind is circling the wagons to provide a defence against overwhelming forces outside. Invitation forces us to think about those not with us yet, to face our fear that invited guests might change us. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
