Invitation challenges our illusion of control

I have wondered about the apathy in our Christian lives for a while now. There are some of us who are apparently mission-minded and some of us are not. A natural result when people feel overwhelmed is to retreat into various forms of passivity. If we don’t try too much in life, if we limit our circle of action, we can give ourselves the illusion of control. The less we attempt, the less chance of failure. The amount of supposed failure of the disciples in the gospels and the early church is vast. We will do anything not to fail in our generation. But we are not in control, so fail your way to becoming invitational, by inviting again and again and again, and we will find that God is in control.
