Social Norms
Would you or wouldn’t you have denied Jesus when placed in the situation of Peter. He followed Jesus at a distance as he was taken to the High Priest’s House. When Jesus was taken into the house Peter sat down in the courtyard near to a fire. Most of us would strongly hope that we would not deny Jesus. But there is the phenomenon of social norm, where we are affected by the reaction of others. The bible calls it the fear of man. Here’s a slightly different question how differently do you live your Christian life on a Sunday than during the rest of the week? When the majority of friends at Church are Christian on a Sunday and a majority of colleagues at work are not Christian during the week. How does that impact you? Invite someone to take a closer look at Christ (who restored Simon Peter after he had denied him) and his church.
