Too Polite to Invite!
Are you too polite to invite? Well this was a reason given at a seminar in Texas as why to we couldn’t invite a friend. To be polite is to show good manners towards others in behaviour and speech. Politeness is the practical application of good manners or etiquette. It is a culturally defined phenomenon, and therefore what is considered polite in one culture can sometimes be quite rude or simply eccentric in another cultural context. So when Jesus said “get thee behind me Satan,” and “you brood of vipers”, when he overturned the tables in the temple, Jesus was not adhering to our definition of politeness! I have to say there is a time to be polite and a time to confront for the person’s sake. Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ (who sometimes not polite but always loving) and his church.
