More blessed to give an invitation?
The most unbelieved beatitude in the Bible is: “It is more blessed to give than receive” The giver happier than the getter? Surely some mistake? How does this work in giving an invitation? At the heart of the gospel is God’s sacrificial self-giving, so therefore we are mirroring the activity of God. As we give an invitation I have seen that there is a gift in the invitation for the person who gives it, something comes back to us. Even if our invitation is rejected we can learn something about ourselves in our response. Of course the biggest deterrent to giving an invitation is fear, the fear that if I give an invitation I might be rejected. But giving an invitation not only promotes God’s work through us, but also God’s work in us, our sanctification. Give an invitation today to someone to take a closer look at Christ and the church.
