Invitation upsets the apple cart!
One church leader said to me recently that people like to keep their equilibrium. They don’t want to be off balance. To have their apple cart upset. Equilibrium is a condition in which all acting influences are cancelled by others, resulting in a stable, balanced, or unchanging system. It is a fear of change. But to upset the apple cart is to cause trouble, especially by spoiling someone’s plans. Introducing invitation as a mission tool into a church is likely to disturb the equilibrium and cause trouble for the church leader. We can see Jesus and the early church disturbing the equilibrium as they want from town to town and incident to incident. Invite your congregation to ask God who to invite to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
