The Invitational Promise
A vicar recently told me that every imperative in scripture is built on a indicative. I asked him to explain…. In more readily accessible language every command is built on a promise. The imperative is don’t be afraid and the indicative is for I am with you. In order to experience the promise/indicative you must obey the command. Listen to this beautiful passage in Deuteronomy “Do Not Forget the LORD – Be careful to follow every command I am giving you … and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors.” For the serial inviter whenever we do invite we know that God is with us. What a promise! Invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
