Appetite for risk in mission

I was asked recently what my appetite for risk was? In business this is a well known phrase, it is the level of risk that an organization is prepared to accept, before action is deemed necessary to reduce it. It represents a balance between the potential benefits of innovation and the threats that change inevitably brings. In invitation we often weigh the cost to a relationship of the invitation and the effort it takes before taking the risk! We can say to ourselves, ‘is it worth the cost of losing a friend?’ And we weigh up the emotional effort of facing the fear of making the invitation. This is the big calculation of mission for many of us and at the heart of our faith. What is your appetite for risk in mission? At the moment it might be small, but know that God is with you and take a risk today and invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
