Why can nostalgia prevent mission?

One of the things that prevents mission is nostalgic Christianity. You know you are into nostalgia when someone starts a sentence “in my day…” People go back down memory lane and look back to the times when churches were full, and conclude that because they are not full today, that we must be doing something wrong, and that everything in the past was clearly right. What utter rubbish! GK Chesterton said in the late 19th century that “Christianity hadn’t been tried and found wanting it had been found difficult and not tried.” Don’t let nostalgia put you off and try inviting someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church.
