The discipleship pathway in Invitation
Invitation is the Christian practice that allows us to explore uncertainty, risk and exposure to criticism. In the early church the disciples were exposed to all three elements. As they moved from place to place driven by persecution, they faced uncertainty, was God going to be with them? They faced risk, at times, Paul for example escaped with his life. They had exposure to criticism from the authorities, both religious and civic, nevertheless good news made progress. There is uncertainty in an invitation as we are not sure of the person’s response, there is fear and we risk being ridiculed and there is exposure to criticism because they might judge us badly. Nevertheless invite someone today to take a closer look at Christ and his church and explore these three elements for this is a discipleship pathway.
